Corporate gifting among Irish SMEs remains as popular as ever with 73% planning to purchase presents for their clients.

The study was carried out among 568 Irish SMEs as part of our ‘Christmas Made’ campaign which aims to make Christmas a hassle-free experience for SMEs with a range of gifting options available in-branch and online.

The Gift That Keeps On Giving
Highlighting the importance of strong SME and client relations, the majority of those surveyed (73%) plan to give corporate gifts this festive season, 65% send gifts to thank their clients for the business with only 11% choosing to send gifts to drive sales. Although they say it’s not a factor over half of those surveyed did notice an improvement in business due to corporate gifting over the festive season. When asked how much they intend to spend 40% show their appreciation with a generous gift, spending from €500 to €1000, while 39% will part with less than €500. A third of SMEs really see the value of thanking their clients and will dedicate three-four working hours on gifting with two people usually involved in organising the present.

Mixed Hampers Still The Most Popular Gift Choice
According to our survey, mixed food and alcohol hampers continue to rank as the most popular gift for corporate clients, with 56% of SME owners opting for this festive favourite. Gifting alcohol also rates highly among SMEs, with over half (51%) of small business owners now choosing wine, spirits or craft beers for their clients. Chocolates were considered the best gift to give by 39% of respondents while just 13% would opt for candles. When questioned on timings for sending corporate gifts, businesses are getting more and more organised every year, November is now the most popular period to start organising corporate gifting to ensure gifts are received on time.

Delivering Corporate Gifts Can Be Stressful!
Organising the delivery of a corporate gift is the most stressful part of the process for 41% of SMEs. Finding a gift that’s suitable is also tricky for 37%, however overall SMEs see gifting as a positive rather than a negative task. 84% of small businesses even go to the huge effort of hand-delivering their gifts and 70% admit corporate gifting is time well spent because ultimately showing thanks is the most important factor.
